Practical Philosophy

Engineered for Australian Grid and Climate Demands

Operating crypto mining hardware in Australia presents distinct mechanical and thermodynamic challenges. Regional summer ambient peaks exceeding 40°C push silicon junction temperatures to their limits, while continuous 24/7 electrical loads require strict adherence to AS/NZS 3000 thermal derating principles.

At our Dawson facility, we do not teach theoretical speculation or abstract concepts. Our curriculum focuses entirely on:

  • CFM Airflow Calculations: Engineering hot/cold aisle isolation to prevent parasitic heat re-ingestion.
  • AS/NZS 3000 Continuous Derating: Applying the 0.80 multiplier on Australian 240V domestic and 415V commercial circuits.
  • Oscilloscope Fault Tracing: Probing Clock, Reset, and RI/RO lines to isolate broken chips without replacing entire boards.
  • Curtailed Solar Matching: Automating variable-frequency mining to harvest daytime zero-export solar arrays.

Solar PV & Off-Grid Mining Integration Workshop
“Our 75kW agricultural solar array was spilling nearly 180 kilowatt-hours a day into network curtailment limits. Callum and Marcus walked us through the exact Modbus throttling scripts to step our S19 units up and down with cloud cover. The morning setup demo in the Dawson test yard showed us how to manage dust intake during dry harvest weeks.”

ASIC Hashboard Diagnostics & Micro-Soldering Clinic
“The oscilloscope practice on live test fixtures stripped away the guesswork of dead chip diagnosis. We spent five hours straight working with preheating plates and bismuth solder paste on Antminer S19 Pro boards.”
Attendee Note: The micro-soldering pace is intense and the fine-pitch BGA rework requires serious hand steadiness; I would have appreciated an extra half-hour on hot air nozzle selection, but the printed troubleshooting tree is now taped right over my workshop bench.

Practical ASIC Hardware & Maintenance Masterclass
“Before the masterclass, we were losing three to four hashing units every summer to ambient thermal shutdowns. Marcus demonstrated how our plenum ducting was causing hot exhaust recirculation. We rebuilt our intake louvres following their CFM formulas and dropped our chip temperatures by 11 degrees Celsius during the last 39-degree heatwave.”
